Reverie Series

The Reverie paintings are a safe space. The images themselves look innocent enough: scenes of nature, a friendly sun and happy flowers, or crunching snow underfoot. The fact is that they carry my worry for my children and the world they’ll inherit. For now, we’re safely fenced off in these peaceful places, unable to make out what lies in the distance, which is obscured by mist.

Tempestarii Series

To the Anglo Saxons, Tempestarii were those who could influence the weather and bring about storms. In the modern day, we have tipped the balance of our own climate towards disaster. These paintings, dwelling in both the past and present, express the tension and electricity of a coming storm and the chaos it brings.

Inspired by Yorkshire

I like to roam on the Yorkshire Moors in all manner of weather. It is a wild place, rich with a variety of habitats, crucial to the flora and fauna they support. The drama of the changeable views and weather and the stories that arise from them bring inspiration to all of my works in some way. Some of these paintings are imagined places, capturing the essence of the landscape. They are places that should be left untouched.
